If you don’t want anything especially elaborate it is probably cheapest to print your own.
You can always dress them up once printed if you are a crafty-type.
I got mine on sale and they cost about 50-cents each not counting the cost for ink. The regular price was just about 1 dollar each.
It is probably easiest to pay to have invites printed, but it will cost you more.
So you decide – do you want to save money or have it easy?
If you want to save money, then print your own.
If you want easy, then have someone else make them for you.

it really depends on the type of invitation you like.. and remember Ink can be expensive so factor that into your cost!!
buying them is easier, and possibly cheaper…
Printing your own is cheaper, I got 100 invites with reply cards for about $ 25 on sale. I also saw some for less in the clearence section in walmart.
But the easiest way is buying them.
For my printer, I would have to buy new ink cartridges which are 50.00 for both. Then, the package of invitations (100) is around 45.00. I found places on the internet where we could get them printed for 90.00. I would much rather do that and not have to mess with printing them myself. But that’s just my opinion.
I printed mine from home. For 100 invitations it cost me $ 40. Nobody could even tell we made them at home. Most of the kits you can buy at any local super center store have websites where you can make them look at professional or unprofessional as you desire. Good luck.
my sisters step mom if like crafty and printed hers.
they look like so nice ( :
get ideas from other invations.
It is way cheaper to print your own invitations!! That’s what I did when I got married…As far as being easy the print your own ones weren’t that hard it was the first time I’ve ever did it and they came out really good!! Just like professionals! Good luck and save your self some $ $ $ $
Cheaper: Printing your own
Easier: Definitely ordering them!
Also, the print-at-home ones always look junky. We had a family friend who is getting married this weekend and her invitation looked so cheap and ick! It made me really appreciate our custom ordered invites — night and day difference! Remember, these are the first impression you’re giving your guests on what your wedding is going to be like.
Invitations are not the place to cut costs! You don’t have to spend an arm and a leg, but you shouldn’t cheap out either. You’ll regret it.
If you’re willing to take the time to really put effort into it, the do-it-yourself kits can look identical to the professional ones. I can see how they might come out looking messy if people just want to type whatever and print it up without running any test pages. We did our own invites, took our time on them, and nobody we spoke could tell we had done them ourselves.
Also, some of the do-it-yourself invites we saw at Michael’s had the most formal designs I’ve ever seen on an invite. We had to reject a few because they looked way too fancy. The paper on all the invites was great quality too and it was only $ 30 for a set of 50.
As long as you dont get fancy invitations have them printed for you. I had mine printed. I used white invitations with blue printing (cause most people use black) and when I received them I punched holes in them and put blue ribbons through the holes (they make ones like that). So I saved by picking the cheapest invitations and adding to them myself. I tried to print invitations for just the engagement dinner and my printer was messing up. I had to reprint so many. it is not worth printing 50+ wedding invitations. You would need so many extras on hand.
My husband and I designed and printed our own wedding invitations. We did this more to get the design that we wanted because we didn’t care for anything that was already done up by someone else. That being said, by the time you figure in ink and invitations, we figured that we saved only about $ 25-$ 30 by making our own invites. (We had close to 300 guests show up, so the savings might change depending on how many you decide to invite). We got the invites from Michaels and used Word to design them. My printer also doubles as a scanner, which helped with getting design images on the invites.
That being said, there are definite advantages to making your own invites. First, you get to design them how you want them designed and are limited only by your own imagination. Second, you can print and have them ready whenever you want to have them ready, i.e. you don’t have to wait for someone else to get them together at their own leisure and hope you get them with enough time to mail them out to everyone.
In terms of which is easier, of course having someone else do it all is generally easier, but when all you really have to do is change the printer ink and load the paper, it’s not that big of a difference. I think the most difficult thing of designing your own is creating the Word document in the same size as the invitation and setting the margins so it looks right when printed. That is pretty easy to figure out, though.
Of course some go all out by getting those invitation books that show sending bottles of sand with an invite rolled up inside, or something else like that. Obviously, the more intricate you go, the more work is involved, but that’s up to you.
If cost is the only reason you’re considering making your own, I wouldn’t bother and would have someone else do it, since the total savings we had was minimal in the grand scheme of things. However if it’s more important to you to have exactly the design that you want and can’t seem to find anywhere, then make them yourself.
It is less expensive to print them yourself. Michael’s this past week had 40ct invites on sale for 30 dollars. I would not attempt printing them yourself unless you are fairly handy with a computer, and have a pretty good printer. Ink though will cost you a cartridge at least, and these run about as much as the invites (30 dollars).
You don’t that many invites, for 100 guests at the wedding you are looking at about 50 invites.
I really like this site:

For my sister’s bridal shower, I plan to have them printed by them. For the color of the ink, fonts, centering and all that jazz its still under 2 dollars an invitation for what we want, and they look a whole lot more professional
It’s definitely cheaper to buy your own and print themself on the computer. We found a really cute set at an art supply/craft store. It cost about $ 130 for 60 invitations. We only needed about 40, but wanted extras in case we goofed or decided to add a few more people. I printed them all and it was very easy. It comes with directions.
I think it’s best to have them professionally printed. I tried printing my wedding invitations at home and I had problems with the alignment. It was more trouble that it was worth.
