I’m having a friday night wedding with quite a few out-of-town guests so I’m going to send out save-the-date magnets and was wondering when would be the best time to do so.

I would send them out about 6 months in advance to give your guests time to plan and then send out your invites about 2 months in advance with directions and hotel accomodations so that they can schedule their stay!! Good luck and happy wedding planning!!

Usually about 6 months in advance is a good idea. You’ll send the invitations about 2-3 months ahead of the wedding, so they’ll be reminded again.

    6 months prior is standard.

6 months a head of time is when you would normally send out save the date cards unless the wedding falls on or near a holiday then you should send them out at least 8 months ahead of time.

I’d send them out as soon as the date is "firm" – i.e. you have confirmed a location w/deposit.

Great question, i was wondering the same!! I have my save the dates, the date set, etc.. But my wedding isn’t till 2010.. I recently received a save the date in September of this year for a wedding NEXT September… I’m sure you wouldn’t want to send them more than a year away, but I think you are ok with a year or less… Because, it’s an informal invite… It’s a "heads up’ so I don’t think a "set time period" is all that necessarily… Except, just before the wedding invites itself… :)

I sent mine out in March this year and we are getting married this coming April. I thought they were supposed to be ahead of time to let people know about the engagement. We just mailed out invitations out this past Tuesday. Seems early but we are getting married in Vegas so we wanted people to be able to save money before they decided if they can come or not.
